Digital Signage Hardware Replacing Printers

Digital Signage Hardware – An Alternative use…

Digital signage hardware features in many workplaces now, for shear convenience, as much as anything else. One particular client has just recently replaced a dedicated advertising printer with a digital signage screen and is so happy with it; both cost and efficiency. The big sized A2 printers are certainly selling for over £1500, but you have to consider the added ink, paper or card, and manpower to print off just one copy. Compare that with a digital signage poster and you will find you get more for your money.

Advantages of replacing printers with digital signage hardware;

  • Effective advertising – static or animated
  • Any number of adverts can be scheduled to run
  • As the day time changes, electronic adverts can reach different demographics
  • No ink, paper or engineer costs
  • Amendments at the click of a button – no wasted paper

Whilst you are programming the computer software to print a colour poster for advertising, it is no different to programming one for digital advertising; just download the content onto a memory stick or send it via the internet to its destination – even wirelessly! Digital signage is more cost effective than printer costs. And then there is the down time, when a technical error occurs, a cartridge runs out or there is a paper jam. Often in advertising companies, deadlines are crucial so alterations, amendments and changes are pushing the cut-off date to the final hour. However with a digital poster any adjustments or modifications can be carried out in real time and at the click of a button, which can be sent hundreds of miles away to a remote location.

The colour, clarity and picture quality are incredible and the poster can be programmed to schedule any number of individual advertising campaigns; which can also be animated imagery. A printed poster is, of course, a static image, so this option opens up allsorts of other possibilities. The initial outlay can be recouped within a short space of time, as many more adverts can be displayed or broadcast than one pasted paper poster can offer. Therefore the RoI is a realistic regain on the costs. Also the lifespan of a printer against that of a digital poster is far greater, as even though they are both located inside, in regulated environments (computer room verses shopping mall) because of the working parts of the printer there is more to go wrong, which adds to the costs, delays and frustration; and possibly even a technical engineer to visit the site.

Positioning digital advertising screens

Where ever a static poster frame is located, then there is very little reason not to replace it with a digital signage poster. As long as the power cable can reach and isn’t going to cause a health and safety issue, then it will be an asset and so digital signage is more cost effective than printer costs. It will become a feature to attract passing and prospective customers and boost those additional sales retails are always looking for. The size of a digital poster can be A5, A4, A3 or A2 in size, however depending on it being wall or ceiling mounted, or floor standing will dictate the orientation and size. The world of digital signage is a diverse one with many options to promote any advertising campaign.
